Book Review: Safe haven by Nicolas Sparks

The Story: Kate/Erin, who is in hiding due to an abusive relationship with her husband Kevin. She is described as a very attractive woman despite (at first few chapters) looking a little pale and thin. I was thinking about Julia Roberts while I was reading this. She was able to start all over again in a certain village in North Carolina and managed her self to get a job as a waitress and get her place to stay which is a bit quite old a and rusty. She found a friend in Jo, her next door neighbor who seems to be mysterious since she's out a lot. And found her self a new love with grey-haired Alex (I imagined Eric Dane), widowed and happens to own a convenience in that area and lives with his 2 kids.

As per google, there is already the movie equivalent for these and is due for release on June 2012. Actors considered for the role were:

Kate/Erin: Scarlett Johanson, Kate Bosworth, Natalie Portam
Alex: Ben Affleck, Chris Pine, Ryan Gosling
Jo: Reese Witherspoon, Hilary Swank, Rachel McAdams
Kevin: Mark Wahlberg, Collin Farrell, Bradley Cooper

Spoiler Alert!

Love for Lippies

Ah, lipsticks! I can’t get enough of them. These babies are my makeup staples apart from powder foundation. I would try to collect as many lipsticks as I can and not open them yet until I finish all 5 shades (pink, red, neutral, coral, plum) am using at present time. The thing with high end lipsticks is that you get what you paid for. Most of the time they are very pigmented, mostly sport a unique color, creamy smooth easy application, and packed with several minerals and vitamins for your smackers. The downside though is that they are most likely in limited edition, have funky cosmetics smell, and overly crazy pricey. I wouldn’t mind to get a Chanel lipstick as a gift for myself this Christmas. It would be a first. Lippie love.

Verdict: Not Approved!

I've used this product for a whole month and nothing happened. I did not intentionally bought this but a saleslady from the department store approached me and said she noticed a couple of freckles on my skin and that there is a product she highly recommends and she personally uses and had diminished her freckles, too. I say she is a good seller she quite convinced me but she lied as well. And from I read on the products website, they really do train their saleslady very well since the products compete with other imported products from the mall as well and Godiva is intended to be positioned as somewhat imported although Philippine made. This made me purchase it because I want to be proud of being Pinoy but made me disappointed in the end.
My freckles are still there, did not even lighten, and no major changes on my skin. I haven't felt any major exfoliation (even micro exfoliation) on the cream. Godiva products boasts of licorice (which they say is expensive on their website) as its major component but it did not even, even out my skin tone. The only thing amazing with these products is perhaps the very distinct Apple scent which made me also purchase it.
I forgot exactly the price of each but what i can remember is I spent around Php 600-700 on "this epic fail" products. And made me regret every cent of it.

Face Product Review: Pond's Flawless White Spots Blocking Serum

I bought this product last May or June I think because I noticed a lot of my blemishes seem to be visible due to sun exposure lately. I wasn't able to use it regularly since I also wanted my skin to be chemical free from time to time. Bust so far I like the way it leaves my skin so soft and smooth as soon as I spread it all over my face down to my neck. I use this product at night and it promises to eliminate/lessen blemishes and dark spot in 7 days. Well I guess I need to really use it straight seven days so I may be able to spot the difference. Surprisingly I did not see any breakouts with this prod compared to other Pond's product I use particularly their facial wash. The non greasy feel and hypo-allergenic properties of this makes me still want to use it. Retails for about P485 at Watsons.

Fave of the Month: Olay Shea Butter Body Wash

I so love this body wash. Smells so great and leaves your skin so baby soft. Plus it is enriched with shea butter and Vitamins E, A and B3. I'm not sure though if we can buy this locally but in the U.S. it retails for about $7/btl. Great buy.

Goodbye Steve Jobs

Well I guess it was just a coincidence that I dropped my Macbook yesterday and now the genius has died.  Around 5 in the afternoon my laptop slipped out of its case and bam! Now it has a dent at the left and side next to where the charger plug is. Well, I tried to comfort myself by just thinking that incase my laptop gets lost I have a particular mark that makes this Macbook really mine.

Rarely we get to see amazing innovators and superb inventors in our lifetime. Lucky enough in my generation I get to experience such amazing gadgets that has been invented by a genius mind. But just like Barbara Streisand's song, "some good things never last.....". Hats off to an excellent man with exceptional intelligence. Goodbye Mr. Jobs.......and thank you.

Joie de vivre!

Title: Bonjour, Happiness! (Secrets to finding your joie de vivre)
Author: Jamie Cat Callan
Published: April 2011, U.S.A.

My Review: The author was inspired by her grandmother, a french lady who took joy in simple every day life. To gain knowledge about the French's way of life she traveled through France and came to know the differences of American women with French women. in her book, she wrote details of how French women enjoy their food without gaining weight, do a household chores and still look glamorous, and flirt a la francaise! The book showed a lot of things that we women nowadays neglect and forget that could bring us happiness. It lets us find our own mystery and and balance in our lives. I recommend this to women particularly who are suffering from feeling of self worthlessness. Chapter four of the book even have common French recipes that you might want to try and get a taste of the cuisine that these wonderful women enjoy, no need to go to Paris. Reading this book might even trigger you to take French lessons, which to me sounds very sexy.

Here are some excerpts I really like:

"Joie de vivre is about trusting that nothing will happen without a reason, and everything can turn out positive in the future. It is about accepting what's in your life in the moment and feeling contented inside."

"Truth be told, happiness is like the artist's muse. She is very whimsical and loves to play little tricks on us. If we search too hard, happiness will slip away. And then, when we are not really concentrating on capturing her, she will suddenly appear in our peripheral vision wearing a green silk gown winking at us."

"French women do no take anything for granted..........They have lost many of their young men to wars........... they have learned to survive on their own..............They appreciate what they have in their lives, no matter how much or how little."

The beginning..........

Amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we should really stop and smell the flowers once in awhile. A lot of things we see around us have its own unique beauty and its just there waiting for us to discover it.
